3m UK households will be hit by disability/incapacity benefit cuts. Sick/Disabled will be made ‘invisible’.

Loss of benefits will “erase some of the most vulnerable people” from the system; increase poverty & homelessness; threaten survival.

Oppose the cuts. Tax the rich.

Austerity is a political choice.

UK govt gave £70.6bn tax relief on pension contributions.

63% went to 6m 40%/45% tax rate payers.
37% to 28.1m basic rate taxpayers.

By fixing the relief at 20% for all Govt can reduce inequalities and have £14.5bn spare.

End tax perks of the rich.

This will directly cause hundreds of thousands of new and needless deaths from tuberculosis every year, and reverse decades of progress in fighting our deadliest infection. I'm just devastated.
Tuberculosis, the deadliest infectious disease on the planet, kills more than 1.25M people a year. New infections are expected to surge by 30% as a result of closing USAID, a memo says. The increase will inevitably lead to cases in the U.S.

NHS England to cut workforce by half as Streeting restructures.

Populist mass sackings rarely achieve claimed objectives, but create turmoil.

How long before we hear that the govt is unable to deal with pandemic/emergency and pays billions to consultants?

Here is a new ruse.

To appease public anger fines are announced on England & Wales water companies but are not paid.

Companies are allowed to fix the amount & timing of their own fines.

Any wonder companies dump sewage, don't plug leaks, fleece customers.

It is "corrupt", what would you call it?
The water industry shows how the state indulges corporations to the detriment of society
Since 1989, water companies have been the subject of over 1,100 criminal convictions, but governments are content for them to control the industry.

2012-2019: there were 335,000 excess deaths (48,000 a yr) in England, Scotland & Wales due to poverty & austerity.

Over one-third of the deaths were under the age of 65 years i.e. majority were senior citizens.

Austerity kills but govts remain addicted.

No govt Bill ever explains the human cost.

Our latest UK poverty report is out today, highlighting that rates of child poverty remain unacceptably high. Almost 1 in 3 children in the UK are in poverty, amounting to 4.3 million children.

Economic growth on it's own is not our ticket out of child poverty - we need urgent, targeted policies 👇
4.3 million children are in poverty

UK govt won’t see progress on child poverty by 2029 even with high economic growth 📢

Our analysis shows under our central scenario only Scotland will see child poverty rates fall by 2029 in part due to social security policies 1/5

📢 Stigma around people in poverty, benefits and welfare is key to understanding why poverty is still deemed acceptable in a country as wealthy as the UK.

Read our recent report on stigma below: www.jrf.org.uk/stigma-power...

Poverty stigma exacerbates shamefully high rates of poverty in the UK. It can affect health as much as trying to survive on a low income. How do we combat it?
