Seattle #Mariners ramblings & hack narratives. Occasional side bar on the Seahawks & Reign. Likes: 80's hair bands, Japanese culture, bourbon, & the EDRM.
It'd be interesting to know exactly what hitter profile the #Mariners are seeking for T-Mobile. Casas & Bregman are a no-go. I'd guess Alonso as well. Drayer believes its:

1. Huge exit velo hitters;
2. Foul line to foul line hitters w/ speed; or
3. Spray hitters.

Personally, I'd love more of #3.

The huge financial imbalance in baseball can no longer be ignored. Allowing a few teams the ability to run $400M or more payrolls bc of market - while the rest are *maybe* lucky to reach half that amount - is going to cripple fan interest. In fact, loss of interest has already begun. #MLB #Mariners

If I received a dollar every time a #Mariners fan told me the M's should spend like the Dodgers, and I had to remind them that the Dodgers - due to location - enjoy huge financial benefits that the M's & 90% of teams do not, I could give Stanton the full amount of $ needed to sign Bregman or Alonso.

This '28 lineup by BA probably plays a part as to how/why the #Mariners are managing their current payroll. If the M's project this same roster, the salaries of just Gilbert, Kirby, Raleigh, Julio, Munoz, Woo, & Miller would be north of $100M given arb costs & extentions for Raleigh & Gilbert.

Given the glowing comments by Dipoto regarding Justin Turner & the impact he had on the team, it's kind of crazy the #Mariners not only have yet to sign him, but have been tied to about every other available 1B out there other than Turner.

I guess it's not just #Mariners fans...

Learned an odd feature on this platform. When you block someone, all their comments in a thread can no longer be seen. A way to protect one's own comments? In a chat abt the Royals beating up a poor ChiSox club in '24, a dude defended the Sox bc of the '23 Mariners. When pushed back on, he blocked.🤷‍♂️

If true that Haniger is slated to get the majority of at-bats at DH, are the #Mariners really going to keep a $12.5M backup catcher on the roster? Just feels like Garver will be wearing a different uniform on opening day if Haniger is the plan at DH.

This was considered a down offensive year for Yandy Diaz in '24. Reporting earlier this offseason indicated the Rays were likely seeking two solid prospects & a MLB player in return.

Let's go #Mariners ... this the guy for 1B.

With the Winter Meetings here, I'm gonna spend all week manifesting for #Mariners fans.

A team like the Dodgers basically has a third party pay the entirety of their massive payroll, plus more, each & every year *guaranteed* simply due to their location. Yes, teams can find a way to compete w/ this disparity (ie rebuilding, get lucky) but that doesn't turn a problem into a non-issue.

The #Mariners being connected to Cody Bellinger is a bit of a head-scratcher unless it's to help bring down the cost for Hoerner. Belli posted just a 109 wRC+ last year & his statcast numbers were a bit worrisome. Maybe Edgar see's something that can be tweaked to bring back the '23 Belli?

The #Mariners need a 3B, but the more that is written about Alec Bohm, the more it just seems like this ain't the dude. Especially not for what some believe it will cost to acquire him.
December 4, 2024 at 3:59 PM
Not to belabor the point, but adding a 3+ win player like Donovan would be ideal for the #Mariners. Not just bc it's adding a 3+ win player at 2B, but bc the M's could probably work Arenado & his contract into the deal, which would be adding a 3+ win player at 3B as well.

Two birds. One stone.

Cyndi Lauper was 🔥 last night. The icon still has it at 71. If you're able to go see her...go!

Could Luis Arráez be a fit for the Mariners if the Padres look to trade him? Arráez doesn't walk, lacks power, & can't field. But I'd kinda love him at DH for the M's.

Padres need catching & 1B help. Arráez & Garver will make close to the same $$ in '25. Toss in a prospect or two... 🤷‍♂️

In today's MLBTR mail bag, someone asked how the Mariners would fare in 2025 if Justin Turner was the only offseason acquisition & Garver, Julio, & JP all bounced back.

The answer was encouraging. But the possibility of a Turner-only offseason is frightening.

The Dodgers are capable of signing every top free agent & it wouldn't cost their ownership a penny. The Mariners - & most of the MLB - are not in the same situation, or the same universe.

The most fascinating aspect of the Mariners hiring Kevin Seitzer to be hitting coach is Edgar being promoted to Senior Director of Hitting Strategy but his responsibilities won't include attending away games but just attending the *majority* of home games.

HOFers get all the perks.
