I'm definitely unqualified to ask these questions, but here goes my head into the chopping block. If pure computational power was the solution to AGI, then how does a mother Raccoon problem solve what I've observed with a brain the size of my fist? Or Ravens navigate, bear young and obtain food?

The investigators asked Clint Massie how many more girls in the church might come forward with stories about him touching or kissing them.

“I mean, there could be hundreds,” he said.
Young Girls Were Sexually Abused by a Church Member. They Were Told to Forgive and Forget.
In Minnesota, leaders of an Old Apostolic Lutheran Church community enabled a child abuser by telling his victims that once the sins were “washed away in the blood of reconciliation,” they could never...

Cryptomining and AI data centers are a symptom of an economic system detached from anything useful or productive. An imaginary system for imaginary money to rule over a world of real people.

It's not cynicism to think that some people are stupid, venal, and dangerous. It's just accepting reality. There was one great mistake in the Civil War, and that was not destroying or exiling the southern elite. By exile, I don't mean like Nazis to Argentina, but a small rock inhabited by ants.

Forty years clean today. I feel as if I'm a living fossil, like a Gingko, or a Wollemia Pine I owe it to many people. My lovely daughter. Family, friends and recovering people. My mom talking sense to me in jail. I'm here on a sunny day, caging white pine and heating the sauna. Isn't it wonderful?

Have any elites or corporations ever resisted authoritarians? Not really. In most of history they've not only complied, but assisted. It's rather simple, the owners don't care about people, only money.

I can't control the lighting, so the picture isn't the best. Watching this Baldfaced Wasp (Dolichovespula maculata) methodically process a horsefly(Tabaninae) for transport did make my day. It captured it, clipped its wings, legs and head off, then flew off. They deserve an honorary statue.

1. From the FDA to the NSF’s new priorities to Chan-Zuckerberg’s recent pivot, there’s a massive push — particularly on they political right — to hand off as much of the scientific process as possible to AI.

It’s not about competing with China in AI. Not while gutting the US research ecosystem.

Apparently Mormon tenets include mocking political assassination and lying about the causes of murders. Or it just says Mike Lee is a walking, two-legged bucket of shit with his head up his ass, and the citizens of Utah are a vile collection of nutballs for electing him

The logic of the "Abundance" argument. "The facts we ignore include massive income inequality, real estate fraud and a whole panoply of things counterfactual to our thinking. You see, the primary problem is local zoning."

Coworker was upset I left to go check on an experiment I'm now responsible for. He wanted an impromptu meeting to "discuss planning for the workflow" for something he hasn't visited for a week. Why don't you go fix the flow of that shit coming out of your ears as you're so full of it?

I'm not so upset with Trump. Anyone not a cult member knows what he is. It's the enablers and minions that we must be rid of. It can't be like last time with a feckless, deluded defender of the bipartisan faith misunderstanding the threat. These people need to be destroyed and their lives ruined

I will forever be haunted by this footage.

Trawling has only been filmed underwater a few times in documentary history, and never with such clarity.

What’s so heart-rending about these shots is watching how the animals don’t just get swept up — they swim for their lives.

It's easy to see the moral vacuity of the elite when their status and privilege is threatened. They bury their heads with their ass up almost instantly. It also shows what the institutions are like; that such people are the leaders is a sign the institutions are already corrupt.
