The administration & their useful idiots say editors & peer reviewers are gatekeepers with an agenda. As @jeremyberg.bsky.social’s shows, the only agenda is scientific integrity.

There is no substitute for a fair, evidence-driven, informed approach to editorial decisions.

I read and re-read the paper and talked to some on the experienced editorial staff.

My conclusion was that there were not sufficient reasons to retract the paper. The evidence was much weaker than was needed to fully support the claims. but this was true to some degree for many papers.

Most deaf and hard of hearing kids are at risk of a condition called language deprivation. Almost all are born to hearing families who don’t know a sign language, and even with hearing aids or cochlear implants and speech therapy, many kids don’t get enough access to spoken language early on.
