New #Tolkien book: Doomed to Die.

With artwork from Tom Racine, this satirical book is a literal A-Z of death in Tolkien, all in rhyme. This is very different from the "usual" type of Tolkien book, and should make for a fun publication. www.tolkiensociety.org/2025/08/doom...

On what happened to the original Jewish owners of the German publisher Rütten & Loening, who contacted Tolkien in 1938 about publishing a German translation of The Hobbit and prompted his famous response condemning Nazism.

Sad indeed.

In Tolkien's works, Faerie is seen as the land of endless beauty and peril. Humility is required here, or disasters shall strike. This concept is also present in hutan larangan ("forbidden forest"), prevalent in various cultures in Indonesia. 1/8 🧵
