Either way while Spotify is making radical (if still exploitative - but that's another conversation) moves into a new market, this is just Amazon playing their favourite game of Total Market Capture (TM)

This works both ways: folks who might have had both Spotify and Audible accounts could be considering coming across to Amazon music. Folks who had Amazon music accounts are encouraged to engage with the Audible catalogue as well.

Amazon already have a strong established customer base for audiobooks - the largest in the Anglophone world. By offering music subscribers a free audiobook they're just keeping them in the Amazon system.

Spotify are leveraging their existing successful platform and business model for music to introduce audiobooks - a (mostly) new to them format - and grow their customer base that way.
