Okay folks, I'm committing to the #100DaysOfCode challenge. I'll share my day 1 update later today, but first a bit about me. I've worked in libraries (public and academic) for the last 8 years. In December 2024 I graduated with my bachelors in computer science (this is my second bachelors degree).

In 2019, Louisiana's fourth graders ranked 50th in the country for reading. Now, they're 16th. Here's how the state, and one rural district, pulled it off.
Five years since COVID, Louisiana's readers are thriving. This is their secret.

Red flag if someone claims to care about diversity but only/mostly talks about the aspects that relate to their identity.

Something fundamental I learned from the computer science program at Furman is the difference between an algorithm and code. As often as possible I try to write out an algorithm before I attempt to code it. I find this helps me to refine the algorithm and avoid pitfalls. #devtalk #webdev #coding

Something that AI has been very helpful for is automating tedious and repetitive tasks. For example. For the game I'm building, I want to display user results in a table. The table's are kind of long and each need unique id's.

Deleted the threads app. I was only going there when IG or FB pushed threads content to me on those apps. It just isn’t a great experience. My feed is just full of people I don’t even follow and it’s also a bunch of engagement farming

since everyone's freaking out about how public bluesky is, here are some privacy tips:

1. never post pics of your house/area, geoguessers are GOOD

2. if you don't want people to be able to learn A LOT about you, don't use your full name

3. always assume something is public unless proven otherwise

💡 Tip: You can set your website as your username on Bluesky!

This is one form of self-verification, and we especially encourage official organizations and brands to do this! Examples include @npr.org @react.dev @duolingobrasil.com.br.
