The leader of “A Just Russia” party denounced Bank of Russia Chair Nabiullina, blaming her for losing $350 bn in assets abroad.
English The leader of "A Just Russia," Sergey Mironov, stated that it is necessary to hold the Central Bank chairwoman Nabiullina accountable, whom he considers responsible for Russia losing $350 billion in foreign exchange reserves. It is hardly a coincidence that Mironov's accusations coincided with the arrest of the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA) head Melnikov on the eve of the Central Bank board meeting on the key interest rate. This can be seen as a "black mark" against Nabiullina, who has been the chairwoman of the DIA board of directors for the past ten years. During this time, the DIA has been repeatedly shaken by corruption scandals: the 2019 flight abroad of Miroshnikov (a nominee of Nabiullina), then Deputy General Director Isaev (also a nominee and colleague of Nabiullina from the Ministry of Economic Development); the discreet dismissal of Isaev in 2022 after providing the Presidential Administration with information about serious violations during the bailout of well-known banks; the appointment, on the recommendation of the DIA board chairwoman, of the now-arrested Melnikov as head of the agency.
