Misinformation *is* central to democratic problems today, but the solution is *not* to correct such epistemic failures directly. Instead, we must address them at their roots, in social identity.

Or so I argue in a new post for @apaphilosophy.bsky.social.

Every disaffected Dem & swing focus group we do begins with people asking what's real. They hear, at times, this is authoritarian takeover threatening lives & livelihoods. But perceive most "leaders" not acting as if this were so.

2) He refused to do it this time.
3) Dem AGs sued to make him do it this time.
4) He lost in court. Twice in one day.
5) The way to do it is OBEY THE COURT!
Mike Johnson: "President Trump has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that if there is any way to fund these programs that are drying up, he will do it. If there was any way to fund SNAP during the Democratic shutdown, you can be assured that your commander in chief would do it."

It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.

Yesterday, Stephen Miller questioned details re 170+ Americans detained by immigration agents.

“Abject lies,” he wrote.

Here’s the thing: We tracked, catalogued, and compiled every one of those 170+ cases.

Because...we do our homework.

Until SCOTUS says "Nevermind. He can do whatever."
Even if he did, which I'd bet is likelier than not, none of this is true. The Insurrection Act is not a declaration of martial law. It doesn't close the courts. It doesn't suspend habeas corpus. It means you can use the military to enforce federal laws, but the laws themselves remain the same.
Trump: "I'm allowed as you know as president, like 50% of the presidents have used the Insurrection Act. Everybody agrees you're allowed to use that and there is no more court cases, there is no more anything. We're trying to do it in a nicer manner, but we can always use the Insurrection Act."

The propaganda did not match the reality on the ground.

Sending troops to LA sought to cause disorder but the desired outcome by Stephen Miller did not result. The recent deployments to DC, Portland and Chicago all failed to createc the circumstances to support the insurrection act.
