Pawpaws are in bloom in south central Kansas! They don’t leaf out until the flowers are pretty much done, to make it easier for beetles to find their blossoms.

Weird how you tried to use Trump as “gotcha” evidence that democratically-elected officials can be fascists or dictators, then.

Moreover, it’s been this way a lot longer than 10 years— more like 245. The common people have little to no say in the candidates. The U.S. is not a democracy.

Sometimes people exaggerate on the internet for humorous intent.

This is not one of those times.

This is the advice I write down for myself, because I wanted to remind myself to think of these snippets of advice when I felt like giving up. I don’t know if any of them will as be helpful to you as they were to me, but I included an image description in case you can’t read my handwriting

Gonna start describing my mood using photos I’ve taken of illustrations in my toddler’s picture books. This one is from Tad and Dad, illustrated by David Ezra Stein.

Gonna do my best w the image descriptions but tbh idk if I have enough artistic vocabulary to get to the heart of the illustration.

Look at this majestic photo of a bald eagle I took today. #naturesky #birdsky

I love books that can be read like that ❤️ My mother-in-law gave me that one a few years book and I still haven’t taken a crack at it yet, but I need to. My toddler has, though 😂

Processing wild #persimmons is SO stressful because you just gotta do it by the batch, there’s no way around it, but if ONE SINGLE persimmon with an astringent spot makes it into the batch, then all the pulp tastes like if fire were made out of desiccating powder.

Give #BookshelfPosting a lil break and hit me with your #SpiceRackPosting pics. I wanna see what you’ve got and how you’re storing it. #kitchensky

Here’s most of our collection: (not pictured: our Tony Chachere’s and our daily-use salts and peppers, which just live next to the stove)

This video is basically what my life looks like right now on a daily basis.

I can’t tell if it is going to upload with sound or not, but I hope it does because the sound adds to the number of things going on in this video. #momsky

While I’m sharing pages from YOUR FACE BELONGS TO US by Kashmir Hill, this is something that should be on your radar in the coming years. The Bill of Rights doesn’t protect anyone from actions by private vendors, and cops are happy to pay private vendors for intel regardless of how it was gathered.

For people who aren’t clear on the context, this is a passage from YOUR FACE BELONGS TO US, by Kashmir Hill. If I recall correctly, Peter Thiel also paid for lawyers for several others who were suing Gawker, not because Thiel cared about any of their cases, but because he wanted to destroy Gawker.

Like on your own post to the top of your own profile? If so, then yes! Tap on the three dots in the bottom right corner of your post, and “pin to your profile” is the first option.

I think probably this was my biggest moment on Twitter. Everyone loves this damn cat. And his other various exploits, like breaking into our neighbor’s house. (Before anyone comes to tell me that cats should be kept indoors, I KNOW! We couldn’t stop him! He’s a tank!)

Head’s up: If you get this error message when you try to create a skeet with an image with alt text, it means that your phone is out of memory, probably because apparently Apple lets your toddler re-download dozens of apps from the Cloud, right from your Lock Screen even when your phone is locked.

Still working my way through FROSTBITE: How Refrigeration Changed Our Food, Our Planet, and Ourselves, by Nicola Twilley. Still think it should have been called FREEZER BURN. It’s an incredible book though! I love history and science of food and agriculture.

Planted another pawpaw seedling today. One of the things that brings me joy 💚

Without downloading any new pics, where are you mentally?

I couldn’t pick just one.

I forgot Raven’s other favorite nesting place in the basement: this creepy shelf under the stairs. My kid calls it the “deep dark dusty place.” It is so gross and cobwebby and nasty and he loves it. Because he’s a little gremlin troll.
November 5, 2024 at 5:40 PM
The top of the basement stairs is Raven’s all-time place to lounge, however. The architectural quirks of the stairs in our 1925 house (that has seen at least 2 amateur construction workers move the location of the stairs in a way that is very much not up-to-code) are like a natural cat tree for him.

Now that the beloved rug is in the basement, does he lay on the rug wrinkle there, you ask? No. In the basement, he prefers to lay on a two-by-four on the cement ground in our unfinished basement bathroom.
November 5, 2024 at 1:40 PM
Oh wait! I actually found one more of Raven and his beloved rug wrinkle. But, like, laying on the wrinkle really stupidly.

Share your mug

I got this in 2008 at a “networking event” for high school seniors that was funded by a for-profit private college and Monster Dot Com. Remember Monster Dot Com? I feel old. Anyway it was the first dish of my own that I ever owned, and it gave me hope that I’d be independent soon.
