Journalists: “Scientists were shocked to see polar bears starving.”
Biologists for the last 30 years: “That’s… exactly what we said would happen.”
The only surprise is that anyone’s still surprised.

DONT SCROLL PAST THIS: Emerson Colindres grew up in Ohio. Graduated high school. Played soccer. Followed the rules.

So ICE showed up like kidnappers, ambushed him, and DEPORTED him.
No court order. No warning. Just a teenage boy dumped in Honduras—alone.

This is state violence.

A report on ending deforestation is now being used to justify more deforestation in Brazil. Industry will distort anything—studies, science, policy—to keep the extraction machine running. Collapse isn’t a bug. It’s the business model.

Israel can take out an Iranian commander 1000km away with a drone missile through a single bedroom wall, without any other damage.

But to target a Hamas leader a few kilometres away, they need to raze whole neighborhoods to the ground.

Is it obvious yet?

The most anti-climate bill in American history, with sweeping consequences that'll harm and impoverish millions.

We can safely conclude that all the effort put into bipartisanship and consensus in US climate politics has proved to be worth exactly nothing.

Great thread.

Our brittleness stems from past failures and new discontinuities extending deep into every natural system around us.

We're going to need millions of people working on forest health, wetlands restoration, fire management of the WUI, etc — and that work will go on for decades.
The solution to the wildfire problem in California is better civil engineering and land management. Not better financial engineering.

It's also likely irreversible.

Definitely here in the US, but it looks likely to be true in most places. National governments will not rescue you from risk, much less save everything — and may not even help very much at all.

Massive consequences.

100% thanks for your work Alex. Much appreciated.
If we lived in a country that cared about its future, we'd be 10x-ing our climate preparations and disaster recovery budgets right now — and ramping them up another order of magnitude over the next decade.

Responding to the planetary crisis should be a core function of national governments now.
