Yeah.. i was thinking about thin blue line stuff from an American context too. The black maple leaf is a mistake (to me) born out of boredom with something timeless, or a need to sell more jerseys - and I just think both motivations get it wrong

I think the maple leaf crest is in the “sacred” category and should reflect the colours on the flag. i understand incorporating a third colour (black/gold/etc) but to me this is a misstep
