Soccer, Sporting KC specifically, and everything else as well. I write over at the KC Soccer Journal. @downthebyline on the Bird app

Going a different route here, I'll still be mostly Sporting KC and soccer, but trying just 1 account this time. So it won't be almost all soccer here.
Pretty soon it's going to be easier to buy a plane ticket and a ticket to a game at the 2030 World Cup in Spain.
Another price increase for the 2026 World Cup…

Sensing strong demand, FIFA raised the cost of many tickets to record-setting heights — the first large-scale implementation of its “variable pricing” strategy.

The schedule change has long been talked about. The format change mentioned is the new interesting part.
MLS owners are *expected* to vote on flipping to fall-spring calendar at Thursday's BOG meeting. Changes to competition format also expected.

Let's see if it actually comes to a vote, but implications are enormous.

This. Her versatility was key, especially this year after Cook when down and Ball and Robinson were struggling with fitness.

Pencil in Wheeler and Rodriguez at the moment for the outside back position next year.
Hailie Mace on her way out is tough for the Current. She was a big part of the backline, and her versatility between fullback and CB helped cover injuries for a large swath of the middle season.

Not only for the team but the city. She really broke out in 2022 and mostly built on that each year.

You’ve probably heard that the MLS Board of Governors is meeting this week to discuss, among other things, a move to the “European” schedule. My understanding is that there’s no way that happens in 2026, but there’s a very real possibility that it could happen in 2027.

Looking back at the stats I need to amend this b/c after they clinched the Shield on 9/20, Chawinga played just 164 minutes in the 5 remaining games. But they clinched a playoff spot in Aug and cruised to the Shield.
Hindsight obviously 20/20, but not shutting Chawinga down, or limiting her minutes after KC clinched the Shield will be a big "What If" about this team. #KCBaby
