With many people getting COVID from the summer surge, a reminder that the CDC's isolation guidelines are inadequate.

It's best to isolate until you test negative on multiple tests. If you can't stay home the whole time, wear an N95 mask to stop the virus spreading to others.

Today, we will rightfully remember the tens of millions of people who have died.

We must never forget.

But we must also remember COVID is still killing, disabling, and excluding too many.

According to the latest CDC COVID-19 wastewater data, we are currently in the second-biggest surge of the pandemic.

It will peak in the next week, with ~2 million infections per day. During this surge, ~100 million people total (~1 in 3 people in the US) will likely get COVID.

SARS‑CoV‑2 is highly transmissible and we don't have a sterilizing vaccine. People can't mask 24/7, so it's unfair to expect masks alone to contain that spread everywhere. But masks can help contain spread in specific spaces like healthcare settings. That makes masks worth it.
