Competitive Rechargeable Zinc Batteries for Energy Storage
Growing energy demands and the associated increase in renewable energy production require robust, sustainable, and cost-effective energy storage, in particular for large-scale stationary applications...

Doing EDS analysis of the olivines I found for fun. It turns out that it is nearly pure Forsterite with only minor amounts of Fe 🥰

Copper crystals can form beautiful leafy patterns called dendrites from the Greek word dendron meaning tree. Dendrites grow due to mineral-rich fluids moving through cracks or during rapid cooling from a melt or vapor. Vote and more👇🏼

Batteries are coming to Europe. Earlier this year Europe’s largest battery storage site went live at Blackhillock, Scotland.
The facility has a capacity of 300MW/600MWh.
Much larger batteries are under development: A huge 1 GW / 4 GWh system is being constructed in Jänschwalde, Germany.

copper has the full weight of human history on its side (the early Bronze Age was preceded by a Copper Age) and is crystallographically, chemically, metallurgically, and physically related to silver and gold, its heavier periodic table neighbors
but I'm voting for molybdenite as a worthy underdog

Because it is so new, and because humans so recently learned how to use Mo and Re, I’m voting for the future of #Molybdenite and Space Age metallurgy. Mo and Re turn common metals into superconductive superalloys, with higher boiling points, improved weldability and corrosion resistance. 3/3

Bornite is great, but #molybdenite is not copper! I kid (kind of)! A soft, silver, greasy, hexagonal mineral that can look like JiffyPop, foil-wrapped leftovers, or metallic graphite. It can handle high-stress/high-temps, & it's anti-corrosive. Those seem like good qualities here & now!

Peacock ore Bornite is very pretty but only gets art/physics points as a source of copper & I’d rather vote for copper itself.
So I am going to vote Molybdenite for physics reasons (source of Re for geochronology, Mo used as a catalyst, battery electrodes, alloys of iron & semiconductors). #OreCup
