Doing EDS analysis of the olivines I found for fun. It turns out that it is nearly pure Forsterite with only minor amounts of Fe 🥰

Currently performing SEM on zinc anodes 🔬. It looks pretty, but one of the major issues with rechargeable zinc #batteries apart from hydrogen evolution is the formation of dendrites, which lead to capacity loss and ultimately short circuit the cell🪫.

I voted for #tetrahedrite this time, because it is a new mineral I did not know and look at these beautiful crystals.

In today's #OreCup25 I vote for #galena because of its historic use as a pigment.

Look at this shiny sample from the Harz Mountains/Germany!

#Olivine appreciation: The olivine bomb I recently found at Dreiser Weiher is very brittle so apart from several bigger chunks I also have a small glass full of tiny green crystals... Look at that color 😍🍏.

I am quite pleased: even though the rim of the caldera is pretty overgrown we managed to find a big chunk of olivine-rich rock.

Second Stop: the Dreiser Weiher dry Maar. It's the second largest Maar in the Eifel, but other than most of the Maars it does not have a lake, and it's famous for nice olivines. You can see the bowl-shaped #caldera in the photos. We go mineral hunting now 😍💎

On the hiking path to and from the parking lot to the waterfall you can also find some decent Devonian marine #fossils and very nice #outcrops.

Again on vacation in the Eifel region and again searching for geologically interesting sites to visit with my family. First Stop: Dreimühlen waterfall, which was formed by human activity in the last century.

Vote for #tugtupite. It has been named for reindeer blood which was shed when when Tutu the reindeer girl gave birth to her first child.

Make the reindeers proud 🦌⚒️
