I’m a business journalist, author and podcaster, based in Ann Arbor.
NPR did it on Newscast yesterday, too. There was a headline immediately followed by a disclaimer. Solution: don’t air things just because he says them.

Repeat after me: the stock market is not the economy.

Not new news. The Magnificent (not Miracle) Mile lost retail because of Covid and WFH. The issue dates back several years. People’s lifestyles changed. I wrote about it for the WP in 2022. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
Opinion | How does Chicago’s once-gleaming Magnificent Mile get its luster back?
Like shopping centers across North America, the famous retail stretch is being abandoned — by both businesses and the city.

In Matthew 10:8 Jesus said, “Heal the sick.” There were no vaccines in his time, but there are numerous verses that discuss medicine. This is just wrong.

Honestly, outsiders treat us like a giant science experiment. Go away.

None of us in MI have started thinking about who we’ll vote for yet. The primary is 10 months away. Repost this in June.

And the Baseball Threads crew wasn’t here. Imagine if we’d all joined forces.

I want to hear this game ball presentation. Maybe he should just keep it.

There is also a snowstorm in the Midwest. That is not helping. Expect ORD and MDW to be snarled tomorrow.

I hope the trolls will read this and compare it with the Mizuhara indictment. Shohei turned over his phone, and the Feds found nothing.

Some of us who have been elder caregivers had a long conversation about this yesterday. Nodding off in public is often a precursor to things ahead. (A lot of elders do so in private, but would be mortified to do so where anyone can see them.)

Why would you jeopardize your career for pocket change?

I would not spend the money yet. Wait and see how they handle SNAP.
November 9, 2025 at 5:57 PM
States do not typically have extra funds lying around to offset the SNAP payments. They would have to be shifted from other programs. One possibility could be rainy day funds (we have one). But that could require legislative approval.

If recipients haven’t spent the money, it could be clawed back. That’s what Social Security does if a deposit is made after someone dies. It is reversed in their bank account.

Likewise, USDA could deduct the spent money from a future deposit. Or states could be in the position of covering it.

I am covering this here in Michigan.

SNAP is deposited on a rolling basis, like Social Security. People who got paid last week typically receive their benefits on the 1st, 5th and 7th.

Most states pay by the 20th although some pay all month.
