Since the mid 1990s, Norway has imposed a 56 per cent "special tax" for oil and gas companies, alongside a 22 per cent corporate tax rate.

Australia could learn a lesson from this and make companies pay their fair share for our natural resources.

A tragedy is unfolding in Sudan.
Millions are displaced, hungry, and at risk. The impact reaches across borders, with refugees fleeing to Chad and South Sudan.

Another wet ☔ day in Sydney (and I was out with friends anyway 😃) so no bird photos today.

There won't be as many for a while - I'm off to Canberra for 3wks with my Dad (and a packed schedule). A different mix of birds near him, though, when I do get out 😃

For now, here's a Silvereye from Friday:

A well on the Fortescue Marshes, Western Australia at sunset. The next evening at this very same spot I and a colleague saw Night Parrots coming to drink on dusk. It would be another 16 years until a call was recorded in the area, providing primary evidence of our sighting.

Been a bit concerned about rat living in our storage room/cellar. A lot of noise and droppings but they didn't seem quite right for rat and were too big for mouse. Put out a camera and confirmed a resident Mardo (Yellow-footed Antechinus) - one of our beautiful native carnivorous marsupials!

We’re calling on the Australian Govt to commit to a fossil fuel-free COP31.

But here’s the kicker: banning fossil fuel corporations and their lobbyists would not only show Australia is serious about climate leadership, but it might even help us win the bid.
