I can now confirm that my new book, “The Memory of ‘76” is a real thing. The book explores the conflicting ways Americans have remembered the Revolution over the last 250 years and its importance in our politics and culture. It is out on July 23rd and available for preorder now.

Got this in the mail today… the cover of the July 10, 1869 issue of Harper’s Weekly which features an image entitled “The Memory of Seventy-Six” featuring an AmRev veteran in his 90s showing his great-grandkids his rifle from the Revolution. It was accompanied by a poem about the veteran.

The anniversary of the Stamp Act reminds me one of my favorite sources from the entire Revolution. In NYC, protesters posted placards all around town in the week before Nov. 1st when the Act would go into effect warning residents not to comply with the Act.
