That was my read of it too. Public transit moved to a bigger pot of money, but that pot of money is responsible for many more things, like wastewater infrastructure! Which we all know is dirt cheap 🙄

Minhas amends to have it be annual, and part of the City's Annual Report instead of separate and biannually.
Multiple people speak against the amendment so it "doesn't get buried" in the large annual report. Amendment fails.
Main motion carries with Minhas opposed.

Nakagawa has a motion to have staff report back regularly on the city's progress on truth and reconciliation. She motivates with personal experiences being attacked online specifically about this motion and its topic. Calls on her colleagues to call out hate like she sees.

Minhas moves a motion to refer that to the Arts and Economic Development committee. Says it's federal issues so not council responsibility. No one seconds it so it fails.
Johnstone argues in favour of the motion saying that having a great postal system is a huge benefit to the city

Sorry, I'm not following along very well tonight. There was a report back from staff on some New West school stuff but it didn't go anyway.
Motions from council: McEvoy has a motion to advocate to the federal government to stop the cuts to Canada Post, particularly the door-to-door service.

On to items pulled from consent: 2026 council meeting schedules and acting mayor schedules.
Nakagawa asks staff to report back on whether other cities adjust Acting Mayor (AM) schedules in election years to attempt to avoid politicking. Schedule currently has Councillor Fontaine as AM in Oct 2026.

Council agreed unanimously (Fontaine absent, Minhas recused) to proceed this file and basically say to the applicant that they will receive their proposal, and provided the applicant a list of "requirements" for the project.

Ok done both presentations and on to the 801 Columbia St (the empty lot on the corner of New West Stn). Previous issues were: lack of affordable housing (or amenity contributions), constructability, elevator/escalator access to skytrain.
Note: this isnt even a full rezoning. just prelim discussion
