A few of my favourite photos from the first part of my recent trip to Newfoundland: around St. John's and the very Irish Avalon Peninsula. I was fascinated by the area's ties to the sea (as with the rest of NL), the strategic importance of St. John's harbour in WW2, and the similarity to Ireland.

Should we route BRT through Burnaby Heights, or along Boundary Rd?

They're the same question. Tell TransLink that routing rapid transit away from key destinations is a dumb idea 🤦

Nothing to see here, just @lucymaloney.bsky.social doing media against inaction on bus lanes while a SORRY BUS FULL 49 goes by at 2 PM on a Saturday.

Cumulatively, 316 years of transit users time has been wasted since 24 July, 2024 since Vancouver voted to put bus lanes on its 9 busiest corridors.
Someone is doing a media interview beside a road where a bus is going by. The sign on the bus says "Sorry Bus Full" Transit advocates hold signs and rally beside a bus stop as two buses going the opposite way pass eachother on the road. Someone is flipping a number on a sign to indicate how much time is passing. The sign is reading: 316 years, 50 days --> 316 years, 52 days

Remember that time @movementyvr.bsky.social waged a huge campaign to Save the Bus? 🚍 The massive organizing effort that culminated with a rally in the pouring rain?

Well, it worked. The first transit service improvements are just a few weeks away ❤️❤️

Putting bus lanes on the 9 corridors this motion touches on would be some of the easiest, most impactful transportation changes the city could make. Instead, endless fights over parking spaces continues, at the expense of hundreds of thousands of daily bus riders.

Working on this bus lane motion by @christineboyle.bsky.social was a huge eye opener for me and one of the things that got me into organizing and politics. It was amazing! A unanimous vote with 3 hours of speakers in favour.

Unfortunately, the City of Vancouver has had near-zero follow through.

When there's no road noise, ample seating, and the sun is shining, you can just sit, relax and listen to the Latin music coming from deep within the scaffolding of the Law Court construction.

The numerous pedestrians that some claim "don't exist" when they argue that widening sidewalks is a waste of time and money.

Improving public spaces is good! People like safe, friendly spaces that prioritize something other than just cars.
