People will die if they lose access to the healthcare Medicaid provides! It seems like some folks in our General Assembly just don't care.
North Carolinians are facing a health care crisis because the legislature has not adequately funded Medicaid. That’s why I’m calling an extra session for the General Assembly to get back to work and fund North Carolina’s Medicaid program.

The North Carolina State Constitution guarantees all North Carolinians the rights to “life, liberty, the enjoyment of the fruits of our own labor, and the pursuit of happiness.”

It is a human right. In the United States there should be no barriers to healthcare.
Health care should not be a luxury.

Medicaid Expansion will be eliminated, and hundreds of thousands of people will lose access to healthcare!
If the General Assembly doesn’t take action to fund Medicaid before October 1, the program will be at risk for serious cuts that will harm our entire health care system. I’m ready to work with the General Assembly to protect our health care. The time is now to come together and get it done.

If the General Assembly lets Medicaid Expansion die, they will also be killing their constituents by depriving people in poverty access to life saving healthcare. These are working people, children, people with disabilities, our neighbors, friends, and family!

If the General Assembly does not take action to preserve Medicaid Expansion, over 675k people will lose access to healthcare. This will have dire consequences for those who rely on it as their only source of coverage. How does depriving people in poverty access to healthcare make America great?
The decision to cut Medicaid will be a disaster for North Carolina families.

Without a proper budget, they are depriving people access to healthcare!
The General Assembly’s Band-Aid budget underfunds North Carolina's Medicaid program by $319 million, which will force cuts to our health care system.

The legislature needs to fully fund North Carolina Medicaid.

Investing in the people will always give great returns, which is great for North Carolina!
The people of North Carolina make our state special. We must continue to invest in them.

The North Carolina Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has made significant progress and gained considerable momentum over the last few years. I am confident we will continue to do so, and I, as Chair, and Hope, as Vice Chair, are ready to lead our council for long-term success.

I am pleased to announce that my fellow councilmembers have elected me Chair of the North Carolina Statewide Independent Living Council.

One in three people in North Carolina identifies as having a disability. Disabled people are among the largest population groups in our state and the United States, and include people of all demographics.
July 13, 2025 at 5:08 PM
Absolutely! We each bring unique lived experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives, and at the end of the day, we are all united as North Carolinians. That is what binds us together.
North Carolina’s diversity is our strength.

I am delighted to announce that, after being nominated by my fellow councilmembers, Dr. Devdutta Sangvai, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, has officially appointed me Chair of the North Carolina Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

South Carolina and now Georgia have abolished subminimum wages for workers with disabilities. North Carolina must become the next southern state to abolish this antiquated, exploitative, and discriminatory practice.
July 6, 2025 at 6:35 PM
Medicaid Expansion is done in North Carolina unless the General Assembly does something to save it!
Congress is charging forward with its reconciliation bill, which will have devastating consequences on North Carolina. But we cannot simply accept these harmful impacts — the General Assembly must now step up.
July 3, 2025 at 6:51 PM
Healthcare is a human right.
July 3, 2025 at 3:34 AM
These cuts will repeal Medicaid Expansion in North Carolina. Over 650,000 working-class people will lose vital and life-saving healthcare coverage. Disgraceful!
July 2, 2025 at 12:16 AM
Suppose federal funding for NC Medicaid falls below 90% of the allocation for Medicaid Expansion. In that case, the law has a trigger provision to end the program, and over 650,000 people will lose full coverage. This a life-or-death situation for the people who need this coverage!

Assuming disabled people are inherently unqualified for a job because they have a disability is abhorrent, ableist, and absolutely not true.
January 31, 2025 at 2:15 AM
Yes, healthcare is, and ought to be codified as, a human right of the people of the United States.
January 30, 2025 at 12:14 AM
Now more than ever, we must ensure that the rights and protections of disabled Americans continue to be enshrined in law and enforced.
