We all want our kids to be safe, and the best way to protect our kids from measles is to make sure they are vaccinated.

There are currently 18 cases of measles in NC, all among people who are not fully vaccinated and overwhelmingly children.

In North Carolina, we know all too well the effects of climate change. The science is crystal clear, and this EPA decision makes us less safe. I promise to do everything in my power to protect people’s health and our state’s air, water, and natural beauty from carbon pollution.
EPA abandons the foundation of greenhouse gas rules
It's the Trump administration's most direct effort yet to rip out climate regulations root and branch.

One of the best ways to support students, businesses, and local economies across the state is to support more high-quality youth apprenticeships. This year, I am committing funds to support more high-quality youth apprenticeships through NC Career Launch.

Making sure people are prepared to thrive after they get out of prison makes it less likely that they repeat the behaviors that put them in prison in the first place.

We have seen a series of heartbreaking tragedies in recent months that are a consequence of people suffering from severe mental health crises. Improving behavioral health care and strengthening public safety are not competing goals. We can and must do better.

Read my op-ed in today's N&O:
Gov. Stein disagrees with his party’s denial of help to swing-voting lawmakers
N.C. Gov. Josh Stein disagrees with a state party move about legislative primaries, though he is getting involved in primaries through his endorsements.

Great news for WNC! The US Forest Service and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission partnership will invest $290 million over the next 10 years to help restore the Pisgah and Nantahala national forests after Hurricane Helene. This partnership is an important part of the rebuilding effort.

Today I’m signing an executive order to take meaningful steps toward improving how we respond when someone is in crisis by strengthening our behavioral health and public safety systems.

Because the Republican Congress refused to extend the subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, 200K fewer North Carolinians signed up for an ACA plan this year. That's the largest drop in enrollees in the country.

Small businesses are the backbone of North Carolina, and making sure places like Darnell Farms in Bryson City can reopen their doors is vital western NC’s long-term recovery.

North Carolina’s economy is strong.

Last quarter, our state’s economic growth ranked in the top 4 in the nation! We have a long history of investing in our future, putting people first, and expanding opportunity. We are not going to stop now.

The General Assembly needs to prioritize investing in people, investing in public safety, investing in education, and investing in health care rather than giving another tax cut for corporate shareholders who don’t need it.

We need a budget that puts the people of North Carolina first.

Punxsutawney Phil predicted a few more weeks of winter, but we will be prepared no matter what comes.

NCDOT has worked hard to reopen roads across the state, but many secondary roads remain icy. If you do need to be on the roads, please beware of ice and drive carefully.
February 2, 2026 at 6:22 PM
After this snowstorm hit all 100 counties, NCDOT crews are working overtime to clear the roads. Freezing temperatures mean melting snow and ice will refreeze over the next few days. Please stay off the roads today and tomorrow if it is not necessary for you to travel.

On this day in 1960, Ezell Blair Jr., Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil, and David Richmond, students at North Carolina A&T University, sat down at a segregated lunch counter at Woolworth Department Store in Greensboro and asked to be served. Though they were denied service, they refused to get up.

Thank you to the NCSHP, NC National Guard, and local law enforcement for keeping us safe during this snowstorm. We are not out of the woods yet. It's going to be bitterly cold this evening across the state.
February 1, 2026 at 6:31 PM
North Carolina, please stay off the roads today if you can. We need to keep them clear so road crews can plow the snow and law enforcement can keep folks safe.
