Apprenticeships unlock the doors of opportunity for the next generation while helping North Carolina meet its workforce needs. I am grateful to employers, public schools, and community colleges – and, most of all, our young people – who will be part of delivering on the promise of our state.

One of the best ways to support students, businesses, and local economies across the state is to support more high-quality youth apprenticeships. This year, I am committing funds to support more high-quality youth apprenticeships through NC Career Launch.

🔋Energy Saver NC is now available in all 100 counties to help families get real money back for upgrading appliances AND lower their utility bills by up to $1,000.

We can build a sustainable energy future and help families cut costs at the same time.

We must continue to invest in programs that will prepare our kids to leave school with the skills and knowledge they need to get a good job that supports their family – whether they go to a four-year college or not.

It’s going to take all of us to build a safer, stronger North Carolina, and I’m proud of the First Lady's work focusing on NC’s reentry and rehabilitation efforts. www.northcarolinahealthnews.org/2026/01/29/n...

Making sure people are prepared to thrive after they get out of prison makes it less likely that they repeat the behaviors that put them in prison in the first place.

We have seen a series of heartbreaking tragedies in recent months that are a consequence of people suffering from severe mental health crises. Improving behavioral health care and strengthening public safety are not competing goals. We can and must do better.

Read my op-ed in today's N&O:
Gov. Stein disagrees with his party’s denial of help to swing-voting lawmakers
N.C. Gov. Josh Stein disagrees with a state party move about legislative primaries, though he is getting involved in primaries through his endorsements.

Great news for WNC! The US Forest Service and the NC Wildlife Resources Commission partnership will invest $290 million over the next 10 years to help restore the Pisgah and Nantahala national forests after Hurricane Helene. This partnership is an important part of the rebuilding effort.

Today I’m signing an executive order to take meaningful steps toward improving how we respond when someone is in crisis by strengthening our behavioral health and public safety systems.

These are just a few of the emails our office has received in the past few months about rising health care costs. I’ll continue to do everything I can to lower costs for people, not making things like health care unaffordable.

Because the Republican Congress refused to extend the subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, 200K fewer North Carolinians signed up for an ACA plan this year. That's the largest drop in enrollees in the country.

The Western North Carolina Small Business Initiative has provided over 2,200 small businesses with grants to get back on their feet. It’s been amazing to see the progress and resilience of these businesses more than a year after the storm, but we cannot let up.
February 4, 2026 at 9:20 PM
Small businesses are the backbone of North Carolina, and making sure places like Darnell Farms in Bryson City can reopen their doors is vital western NC’s long-term recovery.

North Carolina’s economy is strong.

Last quarter, our state’s economic growth ranked in the top 4 in the nation! We have a long history of investing in our future, putting people first, and expanding opportunity. We are not going to stop now.
February 4, 2026 at 7:49 PM
The General Assembly needs to prioritize investing in people, investing in public safety, investing in education, and investing in health care rather than giving another tax cut for corporate shareholders who don’t need it.

We need a budget that puts the people of North Carolina first.
