20 years ago, I wrote a book on how to get away with doing as little as possible in the office.

Reading it for the first time in forever and amusing myself with this chapter on pitting your bosses against each other:
CHAPTER 15 Billy Has Two Bosses: Playing Your Superiors Against Each Other For many corporate employees, having only one supervisor is an aberration. You probably have two or more bosses nagging you daily, and perhaps another higher-level micromanager above them who feels compelled to periodically check on your productivity. The average worker would complain and say that this disparate control only causes confusion. The Overachieving Underperformer would agree with that argument but would definitely not complain about it. Here is a little story to illustrate. Two panels, each containing three adults. In the background are two executives, a man and woman. In the middle is Billy, a cog in the corporate machine. The panel on the left is titled "Billy has two bosses" The panel on the right is titled "Billy's bosses don't get along." The man exec is saying "I've been working here for two decades and I can't stand these folks coming in and telling me how things should be." The woman exec is saying, "I've been brought in to streamline the workflow and modernize the antiquated logistics." Billy says nothing, but smirks. The same 2-panel layout as before. The left panel is titled "Billy knows just the things to say to make sure they never get along." Billy tells the man exec, "I haven't been able to get to those sales figures yet because I've been stuck working on all those annoying inventory forms for 'you know who.'" Billy tells the woman exec, "He just doesn't understand that there's a reason for these inventory forms. He only cares about the profit margins; forget about the guys in the warehouse." The right panel is titled "Billy isn't going to do any work today, and probably not tomorrow." Both execs grumble to Billy about the other, saying "That jerk just doesn't get, does she/he?" Meanwhile, Billy says to each of them "It's going to be a few extra days before I can get this done."
