Some stats from 100 days in on congestion pricing:
- Complaints about car-honking are down 70%
- The Holland Tunnel has 65% fewer delays at rush hour; time to get thru it is down 48%
- 6 million fewer cars
- Half as many traffic-related injuries
- 1.5 million more visitors to BIDs year over year
How Well Is Congestion Pricing Doing? Very.
One hundred days in, honking is down; bus speeds are up.

Government efficiency is when every federal agency has to send a daily emergency email to its workers telling them to ignore another daily email from a different department trying to fire them without knowing what their jobs are.

“If the freeze is not stopped, I might lose my house."

Some NSF-funded postdocs are having trouble paying rent and credit card bills because their salaries were paused this week, even though the federal funding freeze memo was rescinded.

This is as good a time as any to revisit the history of the creation of the NSF. It was inspired by a request from FDR after World War II to Vannevar Bush (Matthew Modine in "Oppenheimer"), who responded in a classic letter now known as "Science: The Endless Frontier". It is very inspiring.

Not the biggest news today, but still worth noting: in the 119th Congress, Alabama will have two Black U.S. representatives serving together for the first time in history.

This didn't happen during Reconstruction. It took nearly 60 years after the Voting Rights Act, and lengthy litigation.
For 1st time in history, Alabama will have two Black U.S. House members serving together • Alabama Reflector
It's a milestone in a state that is 27% Black and where Black Alabamians have fought against voter suppression and disenfranchisement.
