I just looked up those stories and photos. The driver who killed her was charged with his second DUI just 10 days before the killing? Maddening.

Did the city actually put up the sign they said they were going to, to replace the ghost bike with?

Impeccable taste. That might be the move next year.

A friend recommended that I pick up a crate of mini cans that I enjoy drinking myself. Great suggestion.

I did end up giving a baby a Coca Cola, but hey 🤷

54 kids! We had 45 full size chocolate bars to hand out (I ate 3 out of the box this week), then I dipped into my backup stash of soda pop cans for the final 9 kids. At that hour, they’re older and were really stoked.

If trends continue, I’ll only get 18 kids trick or treating this year.

Instapaper! Kobo pretty quickly built against the Instapaper APIs. It's almost a drop-in replacement, minus small differences in their article parsing algorithms.

I loved Pocket and that was a big reason why I swapped my Kindle for a Kobo, so I'm pleased I can still read articles on it

Not for nothing, but my cute local indie pharmacy does free home delivery of my medications, both regularly recurring meds and one-off prescriptions. Could be something you look in to.

This is the first day of school. Same route, same time, way more traffic.

We need to fix the systems that prevent kids from walking, biking & scooting to school.

Where motorized transportation is necessary, it should be by bus, not personal vehicles

I first started cycling throughout a Winnipeg winter at my toddler’s insistence. Every time I thought it was too cold for her, she kept demanding the bicycle.

We go skating outside, we go cross-country skiing outside. This isn’t any different.

(I say “we” when I’m really just a volunteer. The folks who actually run it are great and they deserve all the credit for what it’s become)

We post it with such short notice primarily to limit numbers. We’ve only got so many volunteers and we only want to hold up car traffic for so long!

They are announced with 48-72 hours’ notice, primarily on IG at bikejamwpg.

Alternatively, in the Winnipeg Cycling Discord (DM me for an invite!), someone will cross post in the #group-cycling-events channel. (I get notifications for all msgs there so I don’t miss out!)

The music setup is incredible. DJ riding backwards in a cargo trike, with an FM transmitter on an unused frequency. Music bikes up and down the jam have big ol’ sound systems. Anyone can bring a radio for themselves.

Their traction outperformed friends with studs in more conditions. I was happy with them in everything except the mashed potatoes kind of snow, which studs also suck in.

An alternative that I've loved in Winnipeg winters has been Slipnot Traction chains that wrap around my long-tail's tires, rather than trying to stud those tires.

Very easy to take them on and off as the weather changes.
