It’s just so on brand for America that we’re still talking about a dead man who used ever fiber of his being to spew hate about marginalized communities but stop talking about school shootings after the thoughts and prayers are doled out.

Feeling joy writing theologically for a class again (after so much burnout, laziness, bsing, and resistance in my last program)! Loving the initial draft of a first week paper and also the simple act of writing it

Which honestly taking as affirmation that im at the right place and time

For my son’s wedding the RSVP asks, “What is a song that will get your +1 up and dancing?” My daughter asked her kids, “What’s a song that will get Dad up and dancing?”

7.5yo with a look of complete astonishment:

He’s your husband and you don’t know what song would get him up and dancing??

Being on, say, a crowded subway car at rush hour requires being in close proximity to people different from you in age, race, language, etc, and tolerating them as your equals as you navigate toward a shared goal (getting to work). Not the worst metaphor for a republic tbh

As someone who has lived my whole adult life in cities deemed “dangerous”—NYC, NOLA, and SF—I think a lot about how dense cities require patience, calm, and tolerance in the midst of social difference, which are of course exactly the civic virtues that the right resents being told to cultivate.

Does anyone else find it crazy that you can walk into a bookshop and be charged £9.99 for a paperback novel that took the author a year to complete, but £17.99 for a completely blank notebook?
