I double checked the magical number that reflects my relationship with gravity and not my self-worth and was pleasantly surprised to learn that I'd been overestimating it Freedom Units.

I'm not sure how I feel about that? Nothing has changed but I oddly feel like fitting in my kilt again is closer.

A humble request to individuals posting job listings: if there is a geographic restriction on where applicants can live, please put that in the job description! Otherwise you will end up wasting a lot of people's time, including your own HR team's.

Do driving tests no longer require three-point turns? Or is it just a thing where I live where they'll cut a giant circle through an all-way stop without signalling, being utterly unpredictable to everyone around them?

spine is taking pitches again, ranging from short ($30 for 150-300 words) to longer form pieces ($60 for 500-700 words). *please* read the guidelines carefully, which now reflect the current monthly budget. i want to hear from bipoc and queer folks first and foremost.

How is it that I've lived this long, and been this much of a fantasy AND sci-fi nerd, and I'm only just NOW reading A Wizard of Earthsea?! This book is great!

Had to walk past a couple of families of Canada Geese this morning on my walk. First of all, juvenile geese are not nearly as cute as goslings. They're cute! Just less so, because most of the yellow downy stuff is gone. Also, turns out, geese can growl. And it is intimidating.

I got access to crayons and kraft paper. Of course I drew Trogdor. And then my 14yo showed me his skills of an artist!

He wonders who can guess what the li'l guy next to his thumbs-up is. I got it wrong.

Java programmer complaint: after fighting with it for two weeks, I really dislike Observable. I find it much harder to reason about than CompletableFuture. Possibly because I know the CF will happen at most once, and RX and Observable is about setting responses for every time the thing happens.

As a blind dude, your images mean nothing to me without an alt-text description. I know it’s a pain & I have zero expectations of you using this #Accessibility tool so thoughtfully provided by #BlueSky but I appreciate every effort. It doesn’t have to be The Great Gatsby but please include me 😎

Is it wrong that I'm getting a strong Evangelion vibe right now? Or is it just because I started (re-?)watching Eva earlier this week? #CritRoleSpoilers

My favourite local bakery and cafe, Pan Chancho, published a couple of cookbooks with recipes that they use in-house, and my partner came home with one of them a couple of weeks ago. I finally got a chance to try making some bread from their pain ordinaire... looks like it turned out pretty well!

Finally saw Howl's Moving Castle at the rep cinema near the house. Loved it. After all, it's Miyazaki! But Howl is absolutely going to be an NPC in at least one future D&D campaign. Maybe the PCs will interact with him. Maybe they'll just uncover some of his spells in a library...

Just dropped by the library today to pick up Agency, by William Gibson. Been looking forward to this for a while. Teenage me realized "I have to read everything this guy writes," and so far, teenage me has had good taste. Still glad I got to tell Gibson so when he released Spook Country.
Destroy this myth. Please share if you have visited and researched in a library this past year! RT And give a shout out to your favorite library you have ever visited.

Got the latest Bluesky update? Great! Alas, the developers changed how replies are ordered that, while it will provide for vibrancy flywheels, changes a behaviour you may have preferred.

Setting > Content > Threads > Sort replies to a post by "hotness"? No thanks. Chronological for me!

Today I turned off Microsoft permissions for AI training. The AI option is automatically on now, and Microsoft can go through and use anything you write in the program for AI. The bots automatically go through all of it.

Here is how you disable it:

To be filed in the he-who-laughs-last-thinks-slowest department, I just realized the It's A Wonderful Life is a retelling of A Christmas Carol, with three less ghosts and, instead of the actual Stooge in the story getting the message, it's one of his competitors.

13yo and I were looking through his Mordenkainen's Monsters, and after noticing how much the Shadar-Kai look like they're from Giedi Prime, he decided that House Atreides are from Planet Scotland with their desert bagpipes.

He's also mad that Part 2 didn't have any bagpipes.

My cat is broken. He likes being cuddled in arms, being upside-down, and (failing at) suckling my other male cat's nipples.

And yet, I wouldn't have him any other way.
