So on the one hand we have Hugh White, Paul Keating, Malcolm Turnbull, Bob Carr, Sam Roggeveen, and naval experts all saying AUKUS is a dud and undermines our security.

On the other we have Scott Morrison, Joe Hockey, Richard Marles and Angus Taylor saying all good mate.

What are we even doing?

They have been quick to brand the new pope an ‘anti-Trump’ ‘total Marxist’. In return, he is already critiquing their worldview, says Guardian associate editor Julian Coman

"There is basically a media blackout on this story about Amnesty’s annual report. Nothing from NYT, CNN, AP, Reuters, WaPo, BBC…

"If the largest human rights organization in the world saying Israel is carrying out a LIVE-STREAMED GENOCIDE in Gaza isn’t newsworthy, what is?"

How the crossbench could chivvy a minority Labor government to meet its own promises and principles. Another worthwhile Waterford pot-stirrer. johnmenadue.com/post/2025/04...
Crossbench pressure will lift and improve Albo’s game
Now that the danger of a Dutton Government has receded, a good many left-of-centre people would rather that Labor had less than an outright victory.

Honestly, I would rather be looking back at this interesting phase of history than living in it. It certainly is interesting.
What's really interesting about this phase of history is that it's the first time ever that the most powerful person in the world is a pure narcissist. Seeking a historical parallel isn't much help because there isn't one. Where this goes, nobody knows.

So disappointing to see Australian National Audit Office funding continue to be cut leading to fewer checks & balances on govt programs.

Instead of political posturing around DOGE-style replicas, the major parties should stop dodging scrutiny & fund ANAO.
