Wall Street Journal publisher (and Dow Jones CEO) Almar Latour is on Decoder today -- we taped the day after the WSJ laid off a dozen tech reporters, so naturally I opened by asking what the plan is www.theverge.com/decoder-podc...

Y’all ever have something you like, but NEVER need to see or hear again? Like, I grew up jamming to AC/DC, but if I never hear an AC/DC song again…that’s ok

Imagine being JD Vance. Letting MAGA supporters talk shot about your wife and your kids for not being purebred whites…supporting President Frump, and then being pushed aside like a piece of trash for Elon’s pasty ass. Like, damn, bro…that’s cucking on a whole other level!

The amount of pure garbage I receive on my Google iPhone app is pathetic. Nothing but garbage, ad-littered, SEO bullshit. If I could choose my own sources, that’d be awesome, unfortunately Google makes money by shoveling shit.

Earlier this year, YouTube changed the web embed we use to disable the title link back to YouTube, which everyone hates -- I get notes about it all the time. Re-enabling that link would require us to... make less money on our work. Super cool all around: www.theverge.com/2024/12/12/2...
YouTube quietly made some of its web embeds worse, including ours
Here’s why you can’t click the title to go back to YouTube on our videos

I honestly don’t know how to give a fuck anymore. During Trump’s first run up to election, the 24/7 news cycle was driving me into a depression. His whole presidency had me a whirlwind of emotions. At this point. Every headline about his cabinet picks, his positions, his executive orders, 1/2

To the “high road” Democratic leaders who say Biden should pardon Trump, knock it off. What the hell kind of a message do you think that would send? We need to fight autocracy, not flirt with it.

Um, excuse me, @reckless.bsky.social I remember using a Palm Treo to set up a VPN and tethering it as a modem to my Dell Inspiron in 2007 to stream Season 3 of Supernatural in my apartment, so, uh, yeah, I think BT most definitely HAPPENED

As an annual subscriber, I will be telling my friends and family I’m an official Lightning Round sponsor for @theverge.com Vergecast. I am, however, a proponent of a free press, so, I will not be using any of my financial pull to influence the journalistic integrity of the site.

I have two stories in the @theverge.com zine we printed — one about a guy who has been an absolute menace spamming the web with AI garbage, and another about the scourge of obituary spam online.

We are in extremely odd and dangerous times for the First Amendment and press freedom specifically, but the root cause of our poisoned information ecosystem is broken networks owned by literal adversarial interests!
