I was poor for a lot of my life. And so as everyone who’s poor or struggling in capitalism knows, it is the small treats. When they yell at us for spending on the avocado toast, I go the opposite way. I say, You’re working like a dog, you’re underpaid. Get the avocado toast. What’s the point?

when I was in New York a few weeks ago, I made a point of seeing the Sherald show at the Whitney. If you can make it, go! "Trans Forming Liberty" is breathtaking in person. One thing about her work I never expected was how BIG and vivid these portraits actually are.
