I’m starting over with social media, so here’s a quick intro post. I’m Megan, and I’ve been writing books for about ten years. Four are published (yay!) and another, an Appalachian Gothic for adults called HYMN FOR THE FORSAKEN, is to be released in the fall of 2026.
Still in #5amwritersclub and still committed to Novembo, but my deadline for HYMN is tighter than I’d like, especially with the holidays coming up. It’s time to switch to editing.

I’m a little afraid for my zero draft. Novembo has given me motivation, and I really want to finish.

After some experimenting, I am devastated to report that this is indeed the best time for me to write. #5amwritersclub

My Novembo word count is lower than I’d like, so I’m just now hitting the familiar 10k slog: grasping for flow, questioning whether or not I followed the right idea. This is the process. The way out of through. #amwriting #5amwritersclub

Feeding baby, and then #5amwritersclub.

got my first edit letter and notes for HYMN FOR THE FORSAKEN. What’s the German word for overjoyed but also intimidated by the sheer volume of work ahead?

Late but present! 🫡 let’s see if there’s a paragraph or two to eke out before everyone wakes up. #5amwritersclub

Is 5:10 early enough to start writing, or will my preschooler be downstairs and requesting breakfast at 5:11? More at 5:12, stay tuned. #5amwritersclub

Morning, #5amwritersclub.

Morning, #5amwritersclub. I’m writing and voting today; how does it get any better than this?

Political journalism focused on gender and women’s issues, aimed at a young female audience? That’s some of the most dangerous journalism the right can imagine.
it’s not just about silencing excellent political coverage; it’s specifically about silencing political coverage of gender & reproductive rights issues, written by & for young women. From MAGAs perspective, Teen Vogue is the worst kind of meaningful journalism possible: the kind aimed at young women

Late today but still novembo’ing.

The goal is to get 3k into my middle grade high fantasy about ai this morning. Rent is Due.
November 2, 2025 at 10:53 AM
Writers, what programs are we using now to ensure our work doesn’t get scraped to train ai?
November 2, 2025 at 12:10 AM
I’m a mom of five and it’s 5:41 on the day after Halloween, but I’m up. I’m here. It’s Novembo, and Rent is Due.

It’s egregious on so many levels. As a parent, bedtime is almost a sacred time, ending with children at their safest and most peaceful state. And a stranger forcibly took that peace from them.
What happened in Chicago isn't getting nearly enough attention.

Is my millennial wardrobe outdated, or am I a constant target of online advertising preying on vapid insecurities and perpetually cute as all hell?

A more cheerful post now: I did my first author event in a long time last weekend, and I’m working on a new thing now, too!

The most tragic part of people using generative ai to “inspire” their art is that they believe they’re creating.

What CBS' disgraceful termination of Stephen Colbert illustrates is how quickly a Republic can fall when the media chooses cowardice instead of courage.

Super weird but my senators both just took their phone numbers off their websites. It’s like the guys who want to make it harder to vote and censor the press don’t want to hear from us!

Summer reading at the library is my all-time favorite parenting hack. This summer, we’ve gotten free books, free pizza, free ice cream, and 50% off renn faire tickets. Love that the renn faire supports kids reading but also knows its worth.

At a wedding recently, a big group of hyped-up kid cousins ages 3-10 had to wait between the ceremony and pictures.

It was a tricky 15 minutes or so; they had to be close enough to be in photos when needed, quiet enough to hear the photographer, and still enough for their clothes to stay clean.

Thinking a lot lately about balance in the creative life.

When I was a teacher, I relied on rules and structure and routine equally as much as games, comics, and puppets.

My most successful days in the classroom were times when both sides were prominent. My life as a writer works the same way.
