I am making an impassioned plea to all the covid-informed scientists to share how to improve a respirator efficiency for reuse. At roughly 40usd for 20 N95 masks, many people outside the US (like me) HAVE to reuse the N95s. It's so tiring to only see "DON'T DO THIS" vs "How to improve this." #covid

The actual limiting factor is strap fatigue. The more often you don/doff, the looser the straps become until they are no longer able to maintain a tight seal. This is *part* of the reason I said N95s should be replaced after breaks. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

I am here to encourage others to wear a ffp2/N95 and open windows and build a crbox. There is no support for long covid sufferers or clinically vulnerable. If you get sick, there is no safety net. Labour are ignoring airborne transmission risks, even though there is a huge weight of evidence in the🧵

Being covid conscious in a country with a carnival season has been something. I hate to sound like a doomer but I do not feel that this carnival season is going to blow over given the scores of foreigners here and how most people's immune systems are weakened from repeated infections.

I’ve seen experts recommend storing 5 to 7 N95 masks in brown paper bags
Then rotate them every week
It’s recommended to use an N95 mask for no longer than 40 hours
So roughly 1 work week
I don’t reuse them often, but if I do, I put them in brown paper bags & label the # of hours I’ve worn them
Then rotate them every week
