I work on early childhood policy, I complain about drivers, I share my kids' wit and whimsy, and in between I run a little. Living in Jersey City. Opinions are my own.

Is anyone working on this for their states?

I've grabbed the month-to-month enrollments for a few states (whoever was easiest...) and I'm seeing the trend.

June to Oct 2025, SNAP enrollments down; same time frame previous year, either steady or increase.
I expected to see declining #SNAP enrollments after reconciliation/OOOB1 in July - bc even though big changes haven't come YET, people are unsure after news coverage.

SC has 10,000 fewer households from Jun to Oct. 4% decrease.

What are others seeing? #hunger #foodinsecurity

Pro-tip if you'll be around kids this holiday season but don't know how to interact with them.

Learn their favorite franchises. Then make up a silly crossover situation.

We walked to school cracking up over Thanksgiving with Paddington, Curious George, and Garfield.

That tone change when people REALLY mean it and REALLY want to know.
We are living in times where questions like "How are you doing? "How is your family doing?" are real important questions. I said this during the pandemic, and I'm saying it again.

📢 Local leaders, listen up!!

Next year, our policy teams will launch a new effort to strengthen connections across schools, libraries, museums, youth programs, and other community learning spaces.

Is your organization doing this work? Interested in sharing and scaling with others?? Let's talk!

Let's take a moment though for the fact that Phil Pulley of Philly is a Doctor Suess level bad guy name.
Two days before a West Philly apartment complex went up in flames, its owner, embattled city landlord Phil Pulley, transferred the vacant property to a New York investment firm.

Here's the latest on the suspected arson case:
Landlord Phil Pulley transferred ownership of West Philly apartments days before suspected arson, records show
Property records show the notorious landlord signed a deed transfer two days before the June 2025 fire. The new owners are now demolishing the building.

This is me making a public commitment to getting better about masking. I know the data, I feel like I should, I'd like to actually follow through now...
Some vaccines like COVID and flu don’t stop completely stop infection.

But they do reduce the risk of getting infected and greatly reduce severe illness risk.

They are still worth getting.

Since they are not 100% effective it’s also wise to add another layer of protection by wearing a mask.

Irrelevant to any of the actual events, 20% of the letters in the names of Ryan Lizza and Olivia Nuzzi are z's and my brain simply cannot process that.

A kid at the library befriended us. This is a very Indian neighborhood, lots of cultural resources there, and she was Indian.

When I asked her name, she responded "I'd rather not say it right now. A lot of people in America can't say it right."

Folks, we have to do better.

I really thought COVID was going to be a watershed moment for #childcare. News articles everywhere you looked on how essential CC is! Why businesses need it to thrive!

And yet.

We're seeing voucher applications frozen in a number of states, along with other penny-pinching choices.
