Dr Rohin Francis. Consultant cardiologist with a sub-specialisation in useless videos, found on YouTube and Nebula. Less funny than placebo (p<0.05)

Dad, doctor, dork
But the best bit is that the most ALPHA of all organs, the heart, consumes the other organs and grows, as does the bird’s chest. 1/4 the mass of their spleens, liver and digestive tract is sucked up to service an organ superior to all of them, which powers their incredible long distance flights

A non hummingbird was studied to shed some light. The bartailed godwit flies for 11 days straight, without stopping or refuelling. 10,000km in one go!! How can this be possible? Pre-migration, changes in daylight cue the bird to prepare by eating a high fat diet. Hummingbirds can double their weight

How I score ‘commitment to specialty’ when resident doctors apply to get into cardiology:

1. Published papers in the field - 2 points

2. Undertaken PhD in the field - 3 points

3. Worked in cardiology for 10 years - 4 points

4. Willing to dress as an ECG - automatic selection

Yesterday I did a bleep test & standing long jumps, after YEARS. Achieved level 11 (tbh I don't think it was a proper 20m shuttle so I'd knock that down a notch) and even with my short stature hit a 2.45m jump which seems quite good?! Nothing in the weights room gave me this sense of accomplishment!

lol can you imagine leaving such a pathetic comment under a post about SCRUBS? The show with a multi-ethnic bromance, a sassy Latina; that mocked WASPs, jocks and capitalistic medicine? Whose hero character was a tortured soul that cared too much about his patients? All time top 10 wokest TV show 😂

Breaking News!! No seriously, we’re doing something new at @nebula.tv

You can now try Nebula *free* for 3 days. As a doctor, I cannot advise you to stay up for 72 hours straight and watch as much exclusive content as possible, but you could try…

…Attia is not a primary care or emergency physician, he runs a concierge medicine service for carefully selected celebrities and VIPs. And coupled with his strongly worded public defence of Kevin Spacey..it's kind of weird, right?

CBS, which just ran a 60 Minutes puff piece promoting Peter Attia's longevity practice, now reports links to Jeffrey Epstein

A doctor treating a criminal patient isn't an indictment on the doctor, but bear in mind Epstein was a convicted paedophile long before this period and…

I don’t even know where to begin with how comical this random mish mash of meaninglessly juxtaposed words is. However the quotation marks around “bags under eyes” just cracks me up for some reason

I do love how obsessed America is with height. Just ask anyone who’s endured dating via apps in the US! Or check out those tiktok accounts of people exposing how many ppl lie about their height lol. Someone pls make a one hour YouTube video essay on how it is some deep seated internalised capitalism

For those that haven’t been following the exciting world of metric prefixes, I just learnt that as recently as 2022, some new ones were added. Need to refer to some truly mind-bogglingly large or small quantities of things? I have just the prefixes for you:

Searches for plastic surgeon and dermatologist. I bet these docs live a great life. I should’ve kept an eye out for yachts in the marina named ‘Nip and Tuck’ or ‘The Sun Screener’

Anyway, didn’t see much of either cardiovascular risk factor this morning when the fit French were out and about on food and of course *many* on two wheels. Sure is a nice setting for a morning jog ☺️

I did also accidentally run through the set up for the Nice 10km (I think) but no one seemed to mind. Most importantly I absolutely DESTROYED that mum with a baby stroller #nomercy #eatmydust

This is very good. Just so uncannily bizarre that ‘The War on Science’ (Krauss et al) and ‘Science Under Siege’ (Hotez, Mann) came out at almost the same time and could not be more different. This article is a nice accompaniment to @shaunvids.bsky.social’s outstanding vid

The start is esp powerful:

£180,000 sounds like a lot but I guarantee you will be assessed as doing a bad job

Got to meet @flintdibble.bsky.social! I tried to explain to him that the rod of Asclepius 🐍, famed symbol of medicine, is actually evidence that aliens knew the structure of DNA and that I am therefore descended from extra terrestrials…he didn’t seem convinced 👽

Fantastic to be back at #newscientistlive, kicking off the weekend on the Mind and Body stage talking about why health information is so confusing. A crash course covering medical research, stats, uncertainty, biases in publications, mainstream and social media…phew! Thanks all ☺️ @newscientist.com

The LinkedInstagram practice of front-loading every piece of content with your credentials is exhausting. I get why people feel the need to do it in the world of scrolling short form “hey guys I’m a board certified xyz and here’s why RFK is wrong about this” but it has just normalised showing off

This is something I say a lot too. People (not the author) seem to think the only thing doctors do is diagnose. In reality, that's a tiny part of a modern doctor's job in the real world. A fancy AI offering diagnostic powers would help me only quite occasionally. Real life is not like House.
