Just add a constant, unnerving rumble in the background and you have a clear picture of what Zone of Interest set in 2025 would look like.

It strikes the proper tone in a way that I can only describe as enchanting, like you've entered a storybook. There's a wistfulness to the art style that somehow feels true to Tolkien (likewise the drawings of Alan Lee) in a way that's absent from any of the Jackson films.

His attempts at humor in particular are so remarkably bad that I can feel a little life leave my body. They pass beyond cringeworthy into something else entirely. I can't even enjoy making fun of them.

Yes, as much as anything else this was a sobering reminder of how absolutely dogshit the Senate is as an institution and how likely it is that it will stand in the way of the major reforms we need.

Hard to believe Senate dems will have the stomach for another shutdown after how bad this one got. This was more or less an unofficial surrender from at least 8 of them.

I'd feel better about all this if there were more serious Senate primary challenges in the works but as far as I've heard there are basically none.

Makes sense. I wasn't sure if there was a case to be made for American bicameralism, just with a seriously neutered Senate, or if unicameralism was the way to go.

If at the end of this particular saga we arrive at a new constitutional settlement, would you like to see the Senate on the chopping block?

Angus King basically just said "It wasn't working." Republicans wouldn't negotiate until the government was open.

I remember this popping up in my feed a couple days ago and idly wondering if this was a clue that Dem senators were considering surrender, and welp

On the bright side, maybe someday when the regime falls we'll get a new constituonal settlement with a unicameral legislature. Won't need to primary shitty Dem senators if there is no senate *taps forehead*

If I'm being honest with myself, the only shutdown win that would actually satisfy me is Dems receiving funding to build a time machine in order to travel back to last year and retroactively win the election.

All else aside, I'm still shocked when I think back on the cruel, frenzied dogpiling of Josh back in March. People on here practically calling for him to be institutionalized.
