Habitat protection is critical for endangered and threatened species and the weakening of the ESA doesn't bode well for them.

I hope these two go on to have a successful breeding season, wherever they're going (psst, come to the Great Lakes!). I hope conservation efforts can continue for this (and many other) species despite the recent weakening of the Endangered Species Act.

This species is endangered in the Great Lakes region and Canada, and threatened throughout the remainder of its breeding range in the U.S. However, last summer was the species' third record-breaking breeding season in a row with 81 breeding pairs in the Great Lakes region!
