THE DISMAL TRADE / POLTERGUEST / SWEET FAMILY

Film BFA, UCF class of 2016.

Available for crew: pre, pro, and in production experience.

Miami

Walking Gen-X stereotype.
Also the results weren't really indicative of anything, because turnout was somewhere around 10%.

Technically, all of that content is now owned by Microsoft, but after that really vicious reply I got back then, I haven't had the guts to work out a potential reworking to bring the Manhunter into the modern day. And that's sad, because there's a lot of room for a post-modern cyberpunk story there.

I reached out to the Murrys a decade ago to perhaps bring back the Manhunter series, and got some encouragement from them, but got some really hostile response from Activision in regards to the story and licensing that I backed WAY off for legal reasons.

People like Aaron Conners, Jane Jensen, Josh Mandel, and the Murrys who were brilliant game designers limited by the technology of game engines.
Have you PLAYED the Manhunter series by Sierra? There's really something there, and it's REALLY limited by the technology of the 80s!

What am I supposed to say? No, all those critics are wrong?

Of course not. But I should be allowed to hate a movie everyone liked. I won't shit on the film, or call it a bad movie. I just don't like it, and I have my reasons why. They're important to me, but obviously not the majority of viewers.

Not only is this film highly regarded, but also the script won the Oscar.

So when I tell people I do not and have never liked this movie, I often get a look like I have a booger hanging from my nose, and they often rebut that I'm wrong in my dislike because of the critical scoring.

I can give a real world experience. There's a famous movie from 1989 with an 85% critic and 92% audience rating on RT.

I hate this movie.

I feel that despite some great acting, the entire film feels completely out of touch and has GIGANTIC glaring flaws in motivation.

And the reverse is true. I'll gush over a film I really like, but I won't say it's four out of five stars, because my experience might not be yours. And if you didn't like it, then you wonder if there's something wrong with one of our brains.
December 7, 2025 at 1:16 AM
It's not my place to say that a film I didn't like should score one star out of five, because I'm not their teacher and my opinion should stay my own. Even if I hated a movie, I'm not going to shit all over it, but rather just acknowledge that it wasn't for me. Because YOU might end up liking it.

That's going to be a little tricky. HBO IS still a cable channel, and a lot of people only use HBOMax because you get it free with a cable subscription.
I think they'll probably do what Disney does with Hulu and keep them separate, but have a Netflix+HBO tier in addition.

Once we get a Democrat majority again, one of the first things we need to do is go HARD on restructuring the courts, and then start trust busting so hard that even Teddy Roosevelt would say "damn".
And then pass legislation to keep them from reconstituting like AT&T did.

But Paramount and Comcast would do irreparable damage AND add to their massive right-wing propaganda agendas.
So my personal view is that Netflix is temporarily the safest choice to caretake WB for the short term.
And I'm really emphasizing short term, BECAUSE...

I'm not saying just let Netflix get it and hope for the best. While it's true we don't really know what their plans for WB are, and it MIGHT be way better than what WB has been doing, it's still going to suck for creators and crews on lower budgeted productions.
December 5, 2025 at 9:20 PM
I'm not thrilled about Netflix getting their hands on WB, but WB has sucked pretty bad since 1999, so maybe something good comes out of it. Netflix/WB doesn't seem like they plan to keep Zaslav on like Paramount wanted to, so that's a boon right away.

I've used galvanized pipes and caps for various fx rigs. I bought a lil kitchen timer from Walmart to time out silicone cures. I've bought alligator clips for a homemade stop motion armature rig. Bought 9-volts and a terminal to fix an old guitar pedal. Bought steel wool for texturing monster clay.
