What scares me is that we will need a massive deprogramming effort to free MAGA from the prison of their cult. But any solution coming from the government or semblance of an institutional agency will only push them further down the dark hole.

I think the unsung devil in the story of America is Milton Friedman. At one point the name of the game was distinction: who can make the best widget with the finest material and most skilled hands. Now it’s more like getting to the poker table and saying “forget the cards, let’s steal the chips.”

Capitalism today is less a system and more a bad party. Too many people, overpriced drinks, someone shouting how great they are, and the rest of us contemplate the horror of spending anymore time in this fluorescent-lit purgatory. The only difference in this party is you’re also footing the bill.

Toasters used to be built like tanks. Nowadays it’s not that your iPhone battery is dying, it’s performing a slow, operatic death, choreographed by the tech gods to coincide exactly with the launch of the new model. This is planned obsolescence so precise it’s practically a form of performance art.
