short thread on the Homeland Security Twitter’s use of literal fascist, accelerationist, and Neo-Nazi Telegram propaganda, aesthetics, and memes — incoming
Please amplify, those with a bigger platform than me.

It’s horrifying that the person running the US Homeland Security Twitter uses — and clearly knows — the exact same aesthetics, memes, and propaganda from fashwave, accelerationist, and Nazi Telegram.

It says everything about where we are.

NYT on a roll this week. Seemingly a full-throated media blitz to cozy up to the regime.
We interrupt the current state of a burning, flooding, violent world to again remind you that previous president old. Current president also old, but previous president like OLD old.

It’s not just that they normalize political violence. They also accuse the left of engaging in mostly imaginary violence, which gives unhinged right-wingers justification to “retaliate.”

The Snapchat map feature is very helpful to illustrate this disparity.
The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

These clowns never read Chip Wars.

Shifting production to US would DOUBLE the cost of chips - it costs TSMC 50% more to make chips at their fab in Oregon vs Taiwan.

The necessary infrastructure & workforce (highly trained, strong work ethic, low compensation expectations) DOES NOT EXIST in the US!
Lutnick: "What's happened to the world is the global governments have backed taking our factories away from us. I mean, there's nothing about Taiwan that they should be making semi-conductors. There's nothing about Korea that they should be making all the appliances."

With family members active duty, and forward deployed/about to deploy, this is terrifying. Unfuckingacceptable

The incompetence is hilarious until jets get shot down or we get ambushed because adversaries know our strike plans.
American war planning usually takes place in highly secure facilities. But the Trump administration planned its strikes on the Houthis using a group chat—and accidentally included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg. theatln.tc/IuULQFiY

Dems are their own worst enemy. They are more committed to protecting institutional norms than actually defending democracy.

They can’t stomach the idea of a former president speaking out but have no problem funding the fascist coup dismantling democracy in real time. Priorities.
Where the fuck is Harris? Where's Biden? Why aren't those platforms being leveraged to cultivate public outrage, even if by proxy staff? I thought this was a life and death fight for the survival of the country

I read Tooze's book on the Nazi economy recently, & the big takeaway I got was that fascism re-orders the priorities of the (capitalist) economy away from growth & profit toward the political projects of the govt. Whatever the cost, capital is made to eat them & do their part in those projects.
One way to understand the crashing stock market is that capital is coming to understand that Trump is a classic fascist in this sense; he's aiming to discipline capital with the power of the state to realize his own political project, including esp its anachronistic, dysfunctional political economy

@durbin.senate.gov You voted to enable more of this. Funding just had to keep flowing to the deportation machine, huh?

Meanwhile, since you voted Yes, govt agencies are still being illegally shut down, civil servants illegally fired, and power illegally seized.

And still 0 oversight.

Well done.

While certainly not even close to highest concern, i do wonder how the tourism industry will be hit this summer. Many MAGA biz owners I know basically rely on summer tourism to survive. Even a 5-10% dip would be significant.
