But the most thoughtful journalism experts in 🇺🇸, folks like @jfallows.bsky.social & @jayrosen.bsky.social, have been saying exactly the same things for years too. The denial & wagon-circling are obscene.

It doesn't make me mad. Just incredibly depressed. The authoritarian moment required so much more from the people & institutions with the power to meet it. And they have failed us miserably.

"Worry" is the wrong word here. This process is mostly complete. Most university administrators have ceased having any interest in running democratic organizations in which professors have much say. Anti-democratic, top-down corporatism is the norm at most schools. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/02/u...
