I wonder if people realise that Labour's new level for English language proficiency testing would exclude roughly two thirds of the population, UK born that is, across classes, across sectors and across regions. It's a ridiculous level to claim is needed.

In just under a decade in the UK, we have witnessed increased hostile reporting of trans folk, a rise in anti-trans hate crimes, blocks on health care for youth wanting to transition and judicial decisions that curtail trans people’s freedoms in public. We can and must do better to challenge it all.

So much anti-trans litigation is not about the legal outcome. The litigation instead is a political strategy designed to foster a public atmosphere of hostility and anxiety for trans people and frame trans rights as an abstract debate. We must keep resisting this institutionalisation of transphobia.

Yesterday I was emailed by a barrister: "In my network I have on average one trans suicide per month. Its devastating and a genoicde of a whole group of people."

Those in the trans community know this is true. Wes Streeting's vigorous attempts to suppress this reality is unforgiveable.
