What's more important for a #TTRPG, the system or the setting?

For me the system is way more important but I'm under the impression that people tend to pick up games almost exclusively for their setting. Why then do some of the most popular games have terrible settings? Do I just have weird tastes?

Strong opinion: Good #TTRPG game design is when the rules help the GM create a better game

When a system's rules make it hard to run a game, you can call it a bad #RPG. Rulesets that require too much of the GM can be fun, but they are the source of most of the problems common to the RPG space

The real problem with Hasbro re-defining "indie RPG" to mean "any RPG that isn't D&D" is now when you ask folks what their favourite indie RPG is, that 12-page zine about robot catgirls having sex with each other is competing for oxygen with Vampire: The Masquerade, and that's bad for the ecosystem.
