Speaking from personal experience, it can feel really weird to change your child's birth certificate - a little like you're erasing the past. It's OK - you can keep the original copy as a memento, if you want to. Clean identity docs are a gift to the incredible person your child is growing into. ❤️

This is easier when a parent is "correcting" the birth certificate of a minor (in my blue state, ymmv). Parents of trans kids, this is your call to action! Look up your state rules, and if you can, do it NOW. You can give your child the gift of clear documentation as they enter adulthood.

Kind of a corner case, but my experience (in a blue state) is that it's not hard to correct (i.e. change) the birth certificate for a minor. So, parents of trans kids, this is your call to do the paperwork now and make their lives easier later! 🙂
