The obsession with only consuming morally pure work by morally pure people to prove that you are morally pure has led to a lot of mental gymnastics as people reinvent stories and authors in order to fit this narrow value system.

I know I'm not supposed to care about things because I'm Gen X, but i be caring. I know a lot of my generation was raised to "endure." Whatever it is, the question is always "but did you die?" And the answer is "no, far worse...i remained alive but couldn't live." Not caring hasn't served us.
