What’s a good source for wildflower meadow maintenance? My city mows all our meadows in the winter—when wildlife need it most. I want to put together info on why that’s not the best plan. But the sources I’ve found are conflicting… #nativeplants #pollinators

Moths also play a big role but we don’t usually see them as they’re out at night!
Bees get most of the credit for pollination, but there are many other insects carrying the load. Here's a Texas soldier beetle, Chauliognathus scutellaris, visiting a blanketflower in the Texas hill country.

Did u know? It's important to plant a variety of flower shapes because pollinators can't reach all pollen & nectar from all flowers.Beetle pollinators,like this female Thick-legged flower beetle has short mouth parts,so can only reach food from flat flowers with shallow nectaries. 🌿🌱🪲🐙🐝

Just an FYI, TweetDelete is pretty sus now. They say you're charged $3.99/month and then in tiny lettering it says you have to pay for 12 months. When I got the much larger charge on my credit card and tried to cancel the account, they also pointed out that they do not give refunds.

These are important questions! As a #nativeplants landscaper, I learn about the cultural and spiritual uses of plants in our area and try to share that with others. I also think it’s important to support and donate to local tribes. It’s not enough, but it is a small start.

lots of people despairing about butterfly loss due to that article today, and yes it is bad! but this is a thing u can actually do something about. don't disturb ur autumn leaves! leave native plant stems to stand over the following seasons! leave rotting wood around ur yard! literally just be lazy!

Talked to a mosquito scientist today—I’m tired of getting bit in the garden🌱! He said mosquitos in the DMV usually stay within 100ft of where they hatch. And they rely on manmade catches of water to reproduce. So I’m the cause of my own problem! Plant saucers, downspouts, watering cans all breed 🦟 🤯

Yeah, even things like posting "What Hogwarts House Are You" may not directly give JKR money, but it keeps the IP culturally relevant. There are better works made by better creators out there; they deserve the attention.
