My elder boomer (late 45) dad just followed me on Instagram and I am happy it's Thanksgiving with the inlaws this year.

Found a benefit to middle age: people don't ask you to visit their church. They go for the young and old folks, but know if you get in the way of a 47-year-old leaving the grocery store at 5:30, you will get beat.

Young parents, if you're wondering how old kids have to be before they finally let you use the bathroom in peace, 16 is not it.

I know there are many more significant things going on, but it was so humid in Virginia today that I stepped outside and my contacts fogged up.

Not saying everyone still posting on X is anti-semitic. I'm saying anti-semitism isn't a deal-breaker for everyone still posting on X.

the president does not actually have the power to fire a university president or a museum director, but if elites simply roll over under pressure, then effectively he does

This whole thread helped to clarify some of my vague thoughts.
One thing 2025 has taught me is how easily extreme governments take citizens hostage, strip them of their voices & their rights, & then act out extreme agendas on their behalf.

That was true for Mussolini, Hitler, Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong-Un, Maduro. Netanyahu.

And now Trump. /1

honestly does seem like the basic dynamic in american politics right now is that a critical number of voters treat Democrats like their (nagging) mom or their (bitch) wife and treat Republicans like the “cool” dad or husband who is at best a deadbeat

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people:

1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money
3) We won’t need a lot of troops
4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq
5) We’ll find WMDs
6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators
7) It will be easy
8) It won’t take long

All lies.

My mother brought me bear spray on a recent visit, because she's worried about my upcoming trip to Canada. Chat, I'm going to Montréal, and live in the blue ridge mountains.

Told my husband that all baptized male Catholics can technically become pope because, with at least 20 years until retirement, being the pope's secret wife sounds pretty awesome right now.

My latest piece @thenation.com is called "This Passover, We Must Examine the Indecent Betrayal By Our Own". I'm just livid over the betrayal of Passover's values by Trumpist Jews; values like opposing subjugation; appreciating freedom, and questioning your elders. www.thenation.com/article/poli...
This Passover, We Must Examine the Indecent Betrayal By Our Own
I am livid over the Jewish Trump supporters who are upholding a set of values at odds with the principles that have sustained us.

Took 150 6th graders on a field trip, and based on the lunch convo, I'm pretty sure they understand tariffs better than this administration.

American women friends. Are you aware one of the policies listed in the SAVE Act, the GOP are pushing through, is that women’s birth certificate names must match your current name. All of it. Changed your name when you got married? You won’t be able to vote.

Last week, a student (unprompted) informed me within the same hour that dad didn't vax the kids because they cause autism and also wouldn't let the kid be screened for autism because autism doesn't exist. Make it make sense.
