Title card for the 1940 Boris Karloff movie, THE APE. A ridiculous weirdly I forgot I'd already seen but I couldn't remember anything but the ridiculous high concept, silly enough to be a Bela Lugosi flick. Title for the 1959 German movie THE HEAD, at least that's the title for the dubbed U.S. release. Nutty mad scientist medical shenanigans, decapitated heads kept alive and a head put on a stripper's body. Mein Gotta and all that. I think this came out the same year as THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE, which has an angry lady's decapitated head on a tray. Good dopey Double Feature material. Title for the 1964 Bela Lugosi movie, VOODOO MAN, an entertaining mess with John Carradine seemingly enjoying playing an addle-pated henchman to Bela's mad scientist and George Zucco's gas station owner / voodoo priest. It's the "abduct attractive women to aid warped attempts to resurrect a mad doctor's dead wife". A trope I enjoy, along with abducting attractive women to provide body parts and / or bodily fluids to repair or replace ruined features or anatomical aspects of beloved wife or daughter. VOODOO MAN is worth a few cheap laughs, mostly at the three top.billed actor's expense. Title for the 1939 Bela Lugosi movie THE HUMAN MONSTER. This UK production is based on an Edgar Wallace book so if you go in expecting unbelievable contrivances and goofy plotting, you won't be disappointed. Even so, Bela is in good form and there's a good amount of crazy stuff happening throughout this thing, all of which moves along pretty quickly. I enjoyed it more than I expected. For fans of old, creaky horror and insurance fraud.

A copy of the nearly 600 page Beasts of Burden Omnibus, with art by co-creator Jill Thompson and Benjamin Dewey. Sarah Dyer co-wrote several of the stories and a mini-series collected in the book. Mike Mignola aided and abetted a Hellboy crossover issue. Lettering on the stories is by Jason Arthur and Nate Piekos. Published by Dark Horse Comics, it ships this week. It retails for thirty dollars. A watercolor painted panel from the Beasts of Burden Omnibus showing five zombie dogs about to enter a yard. The dogs were raised from their graves by a vengeful black cat, a witch's familiar. The dogs were roadkill victims buried by the local dogs in the woods. They muzzles are bloodied from a recent kill of a chained up dog, two of the dogs are opened up, revealing innards. Art by series co-creator Jill Thompson, for the story "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie".. Panel art from "Occupied Territory", a four issue miniseries about Emrys the Wise Dog in a flashback story that takes place in US-occupied Japan. He and his human partner -- with the human partner doing all the talking -- are investigating a series of bizarre deaths around a US military base, where the victims are left headless. The illustration by artist Benjamin Dewey shows Emrys with a local stray dog he enlists the services of as a guide. Emrys is a sheepdog. The small guide dog's name is Mullins. Cover art for the Hellboy and Beasts of Burden crossover issue, entitled "Sacrifice". Art by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, featuring Hellboy holding Pugs the pug. The Orphan, an orange tabby cat, is on Hellboy's shoulder. Jack, a beagle, stands in front of them.
