aka Paul Ward, Funk King of Delaware. Formerly Prufrock1974 on Twitter. Sarcastic pop-culture references to be found here. If I've blocked you, it's because I think you're an asshole.
The people who became aware of politics during the time when all disagreement was met with "You hate America!" has grown up to respond to all disagreement with "You love genocide!"

Because the point of "What about the people you're bombing" is not to complicate the ethical situation in question, it's to provide opportunities for the other person & their friends to point at you and say "This bad person loves war and death, shun him!" It's ethics as a bludgeon or punishment.

"Clinton and Obama did drone strikes that killed civilians, so obviously Harris would have deliberately killed civilians too. No, I'm not going to look into anything that could possibly have changed in US foreign policy between 1992 and 2025."

"My opinions are self-evidently good, moral, and just. So anyone who disagrees with any part of them is self-evidently bad, immoral, and unjust by nature. That makes it okay for me to accuse you of any and all depravity, and any advise I give you is justice."

Good point- it's always important to remember that the debate over using the atomic bomb began as a proxy for debating Vietnam, after all. (And I'm sure there a big dose of "everthing you were taught was wrong and/or a conspiracy" too)

Perhaps this is why there's been such a big ideological push in recent years to portray the US as the moral forebears of (or at least morally indistinguishable from) the 3rd Reich: Communism cannot abide the greatest triumph of liberalism.

"No, see, when *I* do it, it's intersectional justice; when *you* do it, it's just liberal identity politics."

I hope it was the same person, because the thought of more than one person with opinions like that makes me despair.

Oh, was that the same person who argued that gulag inmates got to go home every weekend so the gulags were far more humane than US prisons?

And now we have 20somethings who seriously believe that the FBI killed Martin Luther King, the CIA killed JFK because he was going to get us out of Vietnam, AIDS is a US-made bioweapon, and that an 80-year-old cartoon accurately describes the world in the 2020s.

We’ve had decades of “I don’t need to read about _____, I saw a video/movie/slideshow about it”, and I submit to you, readers, the question of “are we better off for it?”
