And now, for some children's literature.
An ad from the October 7, 1997 issue of PC Magazine (US). Styled like a children's hardcover book, it shows a young man in a college jacket and an old man in a formal vest and blazer sharing a laugh; the boy is holding on to his jacket while the old man has an arm wrapped around him while fistpumping. The giant text reads: "Tim said, '100% Pure Java™ programs give us the latest data from our intranet. So we can all work faster. We can have our products in the stores sooner.' 'And we can kick our rivals in the bottom!' said the boss. Tim and the boss laughed. "Ha, Ha, Ha!" There's tiny text describing the Sun Microsystems copyright and trademarks, but it's invisible even in the original scan.

The sovereignty to handle foreign languages was one of the main arguments to switch to Apple computers. Nowadays I wonder how I could ever durst to start having used a different computer system at all before...?!

The Sharp Rateca Puter (1979)
The Sharp Rateca Puter. Face, left to right: A 4.5 inch CRT (behind a plastic guard), VHF/UHF and radio dials, channel and band selectors (TV/COMP, FM, Shortwave, and Middlewave), the "RATECA PUTER' logo on the battery gauge, AFC switch, mode selector, tape deck controls, audio controls for balance, bass, treble, and volume, and a mollyguard to prevent dials and switches from being mashed (the mollyguard being a signature of Sharp's boomboxes of the time). If it were up to me, I'd like still to use it today! It was simple, functional, durable. A self-sufficient device, designed only for this one function "TV". About year 2000 I bought one of the last b/w CRT devices of that kind, same design, brand "Lenco". Shame: all the TV stations switched off…! 🦋

The Sharp TRP801 (1960)
A portable television, in a very 'space age' case: the top is ivory but the sides and frontispiece are cherry red. Twin antenna sprout from the back, a silver tilted carry handle sprouts from the top, and a huge silver grille allows both airflow and speaker. There are a bare minimum of controls on the top of the device itself: an on/off push toggle, a silver tuning dial, a rotary display behind a glass window for current station, and recessed plastic wheels for h-hold, v-hold, brightness, and volume.
